Openings, Movings, and Laughs

Hi everyone! Have some big news to pass along this week, so let’s just jump right into it, shall we?

Yep, Tim never gets tired of this cover

One of the biggest challenges of the pandemic has been handling play space at the Game Center store. It has been closed for a while, Wizards of the Coast has suspended all organized play in North America, and all signs point to putting a group of people together for several hours in a room to be a bad idea for the health and safety of both customers and staff. That said, the current space still has about 2,000 square feet of space we simply aren’t using, and don’t expect to be able to do so for a while to come.

At the same time, we’ve kept up our Magic singles sales as well as boxes and accessories for the new sets and seen an excellent response all Summer. So what are we doing?

We’re moving! Again! The Game Center store will be relocating to the original digs a 316 East Oak Street in October.

We’ve been exploring ides and options for the Game Center all Summer and maintaining an open dialog with our excellent landlord about the realities of the situation moving forward. Fortunately, our fantastic neighbors at Children First Child Care are in need of space to handle their growth at the same time that we’re looking to cut back on space. We were able to all work on a plan to have them take over the space. At the same time, some fixtures will be migrating to other stores, like More Fun Toys! in the coming weeks. So we wanted everyone to know what is happening now. The exact timelines are still being hammered out, but keep your eyes here and on the More Fun Game Center Facebook Page for the latest updates.

When we move into the new (old) space, we’ll still be setup with a wide variety of Magic singles, which we’ll be working hard on expanding, as well as plenty of accessories, sealed product, and other cool game items in that store. As for running events again? At this point, I think it still quite a ways off. My expectation is that I will start running events again when Wizards of the Coast starts organizing large in person events again, and indications are that it could be well into 2021 before we see that happen again. We really appreciate everyone’s support, there’s still lots of enthusiasm for Magic out there, it is just taking place at home for the time being.

Speaking of openings and movings, what’s up with More Fun Toys!, you ask? We’re getting there! We also hope to have More Fun Toys! open by mid-October. Turns out getting all the background work done is taking much longer than expected, but hey, welcome to 2020, right?

The good news is you can see what we have in stock right now! Just check out the More Fun Toys! online store any time, and you can even order puzzles, plushies, and other toys right now to pick up at More Fun Comics and Games.

Speaking of online stores, the revamped More Fun Comics and Games online store is coming along nicely, and we’re adding dozens of new items every day. Between that and constantly tweaking the setup to make it easier to navigate, the store is changing daily, so check back often!
You can even secure your own This is Fine Dog Pop today at the online store

Enough work stuff, let’s talk about fun stuff at least for a minute!

This week sees the release of Batman Three Jokers #2, and while the first issue seemed a little slow, let’s just say the pace picks up in issue #2 and I’m curious how they will pull this all together in just one more issue. If you enjoy Joker, this series is definitely worth your time if you haven’t tried it out yet.

Zendikar Rising release was a huge success this past weekend! Thank you to everyone who turned out for the opening weekends. My personal schedule makes it a challenge to play in person, but I have been drafting the new set in the evenings online and am enjoying it a great deal. Of course, I’m actually not very good at Magic so I lose a lot, but I have fun and learn every time. I also look forward to getting Thieving Skydiver into my personal Cube and stealing Moxen and Sol Rings regularly.

See you next time!
